To help understand potential effects of timber harvest on wildlife, we are studying the ecology and habitat use of Flammulated Owls in portions of the Boise National Forest before and during timber harvest. Using radio telemetry, we are able to monitor owls, both within and outside areas of selective timber harvest, and document demographics, nesting biology and chronology, and movement patterns. Finally, we determine home ranges and assess habitat use on multiple spatial scales to gain insight into the effects of human forest manipulations on wildlife within those forests.
